Youth Track Grades 7-8 (JUST ADDED!)

The emphasis in this program is on participating, learning, improving, and doing the best one can. This clinic is designed both as an introduction for someone curious about this universal sport and for the 7th and 8th grader on the middle school team who may already have some experience.  The usual track events – the 4 x 100 relay, the 100, 200, 400, and 800 meters, and the one mile – are introduced and practiced.

In addition to familiarizing participants with those running events and providing a good workout, additional time is provided for long jumping and relay handoffs, and participants will also be introduced to the use of starting blocks, hurdling, and the triple jump. Depending on time and numbers, the high jump, shot put, and javelin (using the safer turbo javelin) may also be briefly introduced.  The overall emphasis of the clinic is on participating, learning, and improving. The clinic concludes with a meet under the lights at Burlington High School.
